HORSE ADOPTION PROGRAM ![]() The Fort Huachuca Cavalry Association (FHCA) was created to lessen the burden of government by providing financial and material support to B Troop, 4th U.S. Cavalry (Memorial) and to educate the general public of the traditions, heritage, and history of the U.S. Cavalry. One of the most important means the Association has for providing this support is to buy remounts for B Troop and to arrange for the retirement of horses that are no longer able to serve in the Army. The Association believes that it is both inhumane and inappropriate for horses that have faithfully served the Army to be sold to slaughterhouses that produce meat products for France and other horsemeat consuming nations. Therefore, the Association works closely with B Troop to find suitable retirement homes for cavalry mounts that are no longer able to withstand the rigors of Army service. In this way, the troopers and the public can be certain that these animals are being taken care of in a way that is appropriate for the service they so faithfully provided. Persons interested in supporting this worthy program may do so in two ways; Horse Adoption Program – Retired B Troop horses may be adopted through the FHCA by eligible persons. The individuals or families wishing to adopt a cavalry horse must meet the following criteria:
Individuals or families adopting a retired cavalry horse will be provided the following:
Horse Sponsorship Program – Retired B Troop horses may be sponsored by groups or individuals. Those wishing to support a retired horse but don’t have the facilities or time can still provide assistance through the Sponsorship Program. By donating as little as $50 per month for a year sponsors can help ensure a faithful Army cavalry horse is adequately cared for in his retirement years. Sponsors will be provided the following:
If you are not able to afford full sponsorship you can still make donations for the care of a specific horse or horses. The FHCA will ensure your contribution is designated for the care of the specified horse.
